The Estate, which has original title deed dated 1912, was granted to a band of local planters hailing from Kuruvinakunnel and Kallarackal families along with a few other energetic planters from the neighboring plains by the Maharaja of Travancore. J.R.Vincent, the brother of A.D.Vincent, a prominent rubber planter in Mundakayam Valley,who bought the initial clearing of over six hundred acres in 1926, and named it the Down ton Estate.


He built a colonial style ranch home, the Down ton Bungalow in 1930, which today is named THE DOWNTON HERITAGE brought by the K.I.Varkey karimpanal in 1947, and later transferred to Late AUGUSTINE MATHEW also belonging to a leading plantation owning family and is now down the legacies of the KAYYALACKAKOM family by the early 21 ST centaury. The Bungalow is situated on a clearing surrounded by cardamom plantation on three and as a backdrop on the southern side and a steep rise of natural forest towers over the plantation as a boundary to the reserve forest adjoin the estate.

We offer two double rooms and a dormitory which can accomodate upto eight people.
