Short History
The travancore rulers posted a key role in the developments of the cardamom hills into plantations.
Missionaries and a few pioneering planters came up to the hostile regions, supported by the rulers, which later turned, into hill stations along banks of river periyar.
At times the rulers would retreat to this beautiful land were in the early 1930 a summer residence was built befitting the royals at the regency period of rani laxmi thamburatty lovingly known localyas the ammachi kottaram -the palace of the queen mother. Situvated upon the head of the ghat at glenrock estate opened in 1870 by one of the most striking names in the annals of the plantation history mr j dmunroe.
The property changed hands to your hosts in 1960.
The architecture of the bungalow is a curious travancore style with influences of the colonial structuring placed within a clearing with commanding views of the valley, majestic mountains, finely manicured tea gardens and undulating green meadows.
The ivy creeping on to the finely cut stones and lawn flowing around the entire eastern entrance, flowers beautiful trees and ferns makes nature here at its best.
Feel the fresh air and the mild breeze here every were when the home calmly wake up to sunrise.
And at dusk have a drink and enjoy the marvel of the sunsetting into the patless blue.
