The Misty Mount built in 1930. This bungalow with petite cottage charm, is situated in the campus of the Summer Palace, built for the Ranis of Travancore Royal family, during the regency period of Rani Laxmi and Parvathy Bhai. The bungalow once used by the staff attending the queens is now painstakingly well kept by its present owners.
Tucked in a corner of the Glenrock Estate, one among the many tea estates opened by J.D. Munro in 1870, the building is surrounded by lush green tea plantations. The Glenrock Estate is a collage of varied plantations of tea, coffee, cardamom, vanilla and spices managed by Michael Kallivayalil, who is, associated with the development of Peermade.
A flavour of colonial tradition is evident in the low carved scallop and the steeply pitched roof of the structure. The bungalow’s eastern side has many wooden framed windows built on a broad ledge running the full eastern length letting the morning sun in. The stimulating early rays of the morning sun sieve in through the windows to make the day fresh and bright. One can enjoy the sunrise sitting laid back on the sunken openness of the morning room with high ceiling wooden roof. The view across the tiny porch, which sink low into an opening down the steps, lead to the main palace where the owners of the bungalow - the Kallivayalil family lives.
